SUBJECT: Opression vs Possession

1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

2 Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

3 Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

6 And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

 E-91   You believe, lady? If the Lord Jesus will let me know what you're here for, will you accept Him as getting what you're after? You will? You have many things. One thing, you have a colon trouble. You have a gallbladder trouble. And you're nervous. That's right. And then one great thing that's a bothering you is demon oppression. You always feel depressed like the devil's got you or something like that. You're having a spiritual battle, aren't you? Is that true? And especially you get that in afternoon, after the dinner or something like that in the afternoon. It's worse than it is in the fore morning. That's right, 'cause it makes you all upset. See?

 E-72    Another thing, you've been interested in a person you're praying for or something. It's a young man. And that young man is bothered with spiritual trouble. He's all nervous and just scared. He's just mentally shook up. It's demon oppression. When you go to him, tell him not to worry, 'cause he's going to get over it. And you are over yours now. Your faith has made you well. God bless you.

 164      Today, in my motel, there laid a mother out there with not enough clothes on to wad a musket shotgun, and her husband laying out there the same way, and that cold wind. They think their body's so pretty they have to show it. Don't you realize that's the Devil? That's right. Stripping their clothes, only the insane does that. Legion did it because he was crazy. Notice! And we have that, but that's called "style," that's called "modern." We call it "The Devil!" I got the Bible to prove that it's the Devil. It's devil possession, demon possession (not oppression). Possession, he's got you! That's right. Tell them about it? They'll blow up. They want nothing to do with It! No, sir. They got their own ideas, because at their morgue they go to they never rebuke it. Sex appeal is practiced in schools and in churches, and pastors are afraid to rebuke it, very seldom anything.

 E-52    The patient walks up. The first thing you know, that cancer in that patient begins to move. What's the matter? It's recognizing, not that man; it's recognizing that Spirit on the man. I've had them to come when they be in straight jackets, and holler, screaming, didn't even know their own name, say, "William Branham, you've got nothing to do with me."

And the people say, "Why, they don't even know their own name."

It wasn't them, it was that devil that had them so controlled like that, that he knowed it was. "You have nothing to do with me."

And here they come up now, there you see your patient. It's moving up. What are you going to do? You're helpless. You turn to the audience. A critic spirit come in here; one coming from here; one coming from up here. You're anointed; you can feel it. Like--just like going whew, whew, whew. [Brother Branham makes a noise like wind blowing--Ed.] You can feel that. Then, you can feel and know that this spirit here... If you'll watch your anointing, feel for the Holy Spirit, you'll hear another one over here crying. It's this one here, crying to that one there for help, to try to create an unbelief amongst the people, anything that he can do.

Here's an old demon possessed person setting there, saying, "Now, look, he's just reading their mind." If he can get that same spirit on the next to him, the one next to him, the one next to him, they build up a chain. You see? Jesus, He took Peter, James, and John, He put the unbelievers outside.

 175    Hallelujah. I say that because I feel the Holy Spirit is here. The invasion's on, just sweeping from house to house, from place to place, from church to church, from man to man.

 185    What is it? It's the devil. The invasion's on. I ain't saying nothing about this individual or that individual. I'm saying it's unclean spirits that are possessing the people, driving them right into it.

The invasion of the United States, the overthrow of the church... The church is overthrowed by the devil. Back yonder...

Now remember this. Christ in the True Church is a continuation of the Book of Acts. But the Book of Revelation shows how that the antichrist spirit would come into the church and defile it, making it lukewarm, formal and powerless. It exposes Satan, revealing his works (attempted destruction of God's people and the discrediting of God's word) right down to the time he is cast into the lake of fire. He fights that. He cannot stand it. He knows that if the people get the TRUE REVELATION of the TRUE CHURCH and what she is, what she stands for and that SHE CAN DO THE GREATER WORKS, she will be an invincible army. If they get a true revelation of the two spirits within the framework of the Christian church, and by God's Spirit discern and withstand the antichrist spirit, Satan will be powerless before her. He will be as definitely thwarted today as when Christ withstood his every effort to gain power over Him in the desert. Yes, Satan hates revelation. But we love it. With true revelation in our lives, the gates of hell cannot prevail against us, but we will prevail over them.
